Running pace calculator: 5K, 10K, half, marathon
Pace is the number of minutes it takes you to run one kilometre. Knowing it helps you spread your effort in training and racing, set realistic goals and track progress. Pick a distance, enter a time and the calculator does the rest.
The pace formula
Pace = time ÷ distance. Run 5 km in 30 minutes: 30 ÷ 5 = 6, a pace of 6:00 per km. As speed: 60 ÷ 6 = 10 km/h. To find a finish time, multiply pace by distance: at 6:00/km, 21.1 km takes about 2 hours 6 minutes 35 seconds.

How the race prediction works
The calculator uses the Riegel formula: T2 = T1 × (D2 ÷ D1)1.06. A 30-minute 5K predicts roughly 1:02:33 for 10K and 2:18:00 for a half. It only holds if you have trained for the longer distance; newer runners often finish half and full marathons slower than predicted.
Using pace in training
Most of your runs should be easy enough to talk in full sentences, with only a small share at goal pace or faster. See the beginner 5K plan and the full guide to pace.
